Deep Space: Week 1 and more!

Heeeellllooooooooo! Welcome back to the happiest place on earth! Since Week 1 is officially over,  we NEED to fill you guys in on what we’ve done this year! So let’s start!
Since we’ve covered girlPOWER and most of September we’ll start with October!
October

• We competed at 708’s Havoc Off-Season Event! (We were an alliance captain!)
• We went to 272 Cyber Crusader’s Comcast Bootcamp and learned about so many amazing things for this season!
• We spent A LOT of time mentoring our 3 FLL Teams!
  • Our 2 teams from St. Gens are actually moving on!
  • And our Norbots and ST. Gens Green won awards!
• Firebird President Kate becomes a legal adult! (our baby bird is growing up)
• Worked on our outreach bot FireFly (our robot from 2014)
  • We are now using the Hero Board
  • Started on the pneumatics
• BABY BIRDS HAVE OFFICIALLY JOINED THE NEST!
• Cleaning. Lots of cleaning.
  
  
  

November

• We competed at 341 Miss Daisy’s Ramp Riot and were the first pick for the 8th alliance!
• Joined 423 at Wynecote STEM Night to spread the message of FIRST
• Went to 272’s Off-Season FLL Tune Up
• Attended Rockwell Automation
  • Dealt with the “Snow Brigade”
    • Aka too much snow to be stuck in the city
  • WE MET JAY FLORES AND DON BOSSI
  • Shoutout to 321 for teaching us how to do their hand signal
• Interacted with the amazing kids at the Widener Memorial School
• Got back to mentoring FLL!
• Firebird Friendsgiving!
• Started our Executive Summaries!
  
  
  

December

  • FLL LaSalle (we volunteered!
• Helped at our school’s Innovation Night
  • Introduced STEM to 5-8th grade girls!
• Girl Scout Shop Visit
• Mock Kickoff with 272!
• Ronald McDonald Robot Demo
  • Got to hang out with brave and hilarious kids
  • Got to use the universal language of laughter when language barriers tried to stop us!

January - WEEK 1

• KICK OFF!
  • Deep Space is so cool and we’re so excited!
• Brainstorm with 7599 Blue Pride
  • Even played StuBots!
• Started Prototypes!
  • Made vacuums
  • Fidget spinner wall climbers!
  • Robots that can do pushups?
  • MORE JELLY WHEELS
  • Vision testing and lots of lights!
  • Hugs for Hatches!
• Decided our strategy
  • All done through presentations of our prototypes and then a group discussion
• Field Pieces galore!
  • *Note: it is a good idea to invest in 2x4 storage containers to avoid warped wood*
• THERE WAS A DOG (enough said)
• Chairmans, Chairmans, and more Chairmans!
  • Started figuring out our theme for the year and recapping our new outreaches!

This is just the beginning of the amazing things that happened since we’ve been gone! Now that Week 1 is at a close, we sadly will not be in shop for a little while due to Finals being this week, BUT we will be back on Thursday! And meanwhile, we are prepping for our annual Quizzo Fundraiser which is this Friday! If you haven’t gotten a table there’s still time left or if you would like to make a donation to the event feel free to reach out!
